Royal Photographic Society International Print Exhibition 158

I'm very pleased to have two of the 'Con Club' series images shortlisted for the RPS International Print Exhibition 158. Nearly 5000 images submitted from 56 countries around the world and just over 400 selected for the shortlist by the selectors. I entered 2 images from my series that I've been shooting for the last 3 years. Both images take on a musical theme, the club hosts many nights and I'm interested in the diverse range of people and acts that play at the club. The images shortlisted are below. One from a Beatles cover band night where a small group of regulars were singing along at the opposite end of the function room to the band, the dance floor completely empty at the time. The elder members of the club are certainly not shy when it comes to getting up and dancing but this being early into the set, 'Love Me Do' as I recall, was about absorbing the atmosphere and easing into the night.

The other shot is from one of the 'Northern Soul' nights. A regular feature at the Con Club and one I have shot many times over the last few years. Ive met some great characters and great dancers and this shot was taken at the Christmas 2014 night. The young dancer is Paul Kelly, incredible to watch and I found myself fixed on him with my camera for a few frames throughout the night. That often happens when I photograph the soul nights, people stick out and I become transfixed on them. I like this one for its suggestive tones and his look of consideration for his next move. My next move is to get prints made up and delivered to the RPS judges for consideration into the 100 final prints to be exhibited.
